New Mexico's K-12 science standards "most-improved" since 2000

New Mexico receives rave reviews in the The State of State Standards report, recently published by the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation. NM, which received an A, was one of 19 states who received "honor" status by either receiving an A or B.

Business and Academic Leaders Urge New Focus On Innovation, Education to Strenthen U.S. Competitiveness

At a national summit today addressing U.S. economic competitiveness, top corporate and academic leaders said the U.S. must increase its investment in fundamental research, strengthen K-12 math and science education, and reform immigration policy to successfully compete with rapidly developing economies abroad.

The Growing a STEM Team! Manual

The manual is is designed to serve as a resource for people interested in conducting gender equitable outreach to K12 classrooms. The manual has two parts. The first part contains classroom tested engineering activities for 8 th grade middle school classrooms such as "The Great Orange Juice Squeeze", "Binary in a Box" and "Design a Wacky Shoe". The second part describes how to form and prepare a team of students, faculty and practicing engineers (a Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or "STEM Team") to deliver these activities in the classroom.
