Barbara Kimbell is Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development at the University of New Mexico and Interim State Director of the New Mexico EPSCoR program. She is responsible for instigating, fostering and facilitating the development of research and education funding opportunities, specializing in large, complex, multi-institutional, multi-agency, multi-disciplinary science and engineering research projects. Current projects under development range from a basin-scale hydrologic observatory on the Rio Grande to a covert bioagent detector network.

Prior to joining UNM in 1999, Barbara spent 15 years as the Systems Engineer and Program Manager for the R.L.Golden Particle Astrophysics Lab, a multinational collaboration engaged in astrophysics research using detectors on high altitude balloon payloads and spacecraft.
