A Geothermal Adventure to White Rock Canyon

By Natalie Willoughby

On March 8-10, Dr. Laura Crossey and Dr. Karl Karlstrom lead their geothermal class (provided by funding from NM EPSCoR) on a trip to White Rock Canyon in northern New Mexico. The class looked at the timing of recent volcanics, as well as the expressions of faults and fluid flow exposed in the canyon. They sampled some of the younger volcanic rock for geochronology, examined faults, and—in keeping with current NM EPSCoR geothermal research—sampled springs to look for geothermal tracers in the water and gas. Thanks to Laura for all the great pictures! View the slideshow of the trip below, or visit our Flickr page.
