Navajo Nation Water Purification Project Water Symposium
The Navajo Nation Water Purification Project (N4WPP) is a joint initiative between Navajo Technical University and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology focused on addressing long-standing water quality challenges on the Navajo Nation. These challenges include elevated dissolved salts and metal contaminants caused by both natural geologic conditions and legacy human activities such as mining and oil extraction. As a result, many water sources are unsuitable for agricultural use, livestock, or human consumption. The N4WPP Annual Water Symposium serves as a working-group designed to strengthen collaboration among academic institutions, students, and community partners while advancing practical solutions for sustainable water purification. The symposium will emphasize the needs to support workforce development, hands-on training, applied research translation, and long-term infrastructure planning, rather than data collection or conference-style presentations.
