Join this webinar to learn about new federal data management and sharing policies (DMSP) and implications for Principal Investigators. In addition, Dr. Wheeler will share tools for meeting the new requirements.
Background: In May 2025 Executive Order 14303 was issued, removing the embargo period allowances for federally-funded research publications and their supporting datasets. In January 2026, new guidance was published to align DMSP proposal requirements with the executive order. As a result, both NIH and NSF have implemented new DMSP requirements as part of their proposal processes.
Jon Wheeler is an Associate Professor and Data Curation Librarian at the UNM College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences, where he supports researchers in the development and operationalization of Data Management & Sharing Plans that are compliant with funder policies. As a certified Data and Software Carpentry instructor, Professor Wheeler has extensive experience communicating leading practices in introductory programming, collaborative and reproducible research, and FAIR data management and sharing. Professor Wheeler's current research focuses on human-centered approaches to the teaching and assessment of AI literacy.
