The 2025 edition of the New Mexico Journal of Science, a peer-reviewed publication produced jointly by the New Mexico Academy of Science and New Mexico EPSCoR, is now publicly accessible at https://www.nmas.org/2025-nmjs.
This year's issue features five original academic papers representing current research from across the state, along with poster and oral session abstracts from the 2025 New Mexico Research Symposium.
Beyond its role as a scholarly outlet, the Journal has a stated mission of nurturing the next generation of researchers. Editor-in-Chief Seyi Adekoya of the University of New Mexico describes that mission as central to the publication's identity. "We support students and early-career researchers by providing mentorship opportunities to help guide their work toward publication," Adekoya said.
Associate Editor Brittney Van Der Werff of New Mexico EPSCoR emphasized that the Journal's hands-on approach to working with new authors is deliberate. "Publishing is intimidating. Our goal is to prepare new authors for the realities of academic publishing, giving them the tools and confidence to succeed when they submit to larger journals," she explained.
